Free to use, share, and build upon - provided you give credit, don't use it commercially, and release adaptations under the same terms. The goal is accessible psychosocial risk assessment for every workplace, not a commercial product.

What you can do

Use it freely

Run Prior Work for any non-commercial purpose - including workplace wellbeing programmes, research, education, and public-sector WHS compliance work.

Share it

Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, as long as you include the attribution notice below.

Adapt it

Translate, remix, or build on Prior Work - for example, adding sector-specific survey templates - provided your adaptation is released under the same CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 terms.

Cite outputs in publications

Reports generated by Prior Work may be included in academic or professional publications. Please attribute them as outputs of Prior Work.

What you cannot do

Sell it or incorporate it into commercial products

You may not use Prior Work - or any derivative work - as part of a paid product or service, including consulting engagements, SaaS platforms, or training materials sold for profit.

Remove attribution

Any use or adaptation must clearly credit Prior Work and link to this licence.

Apply additional restrictions

You may not apply legal terms or technical measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the licence permits.

What you should do

None of the following is a legal obligation - just good citizenship for an open commons.

Pay it forward

If Prior Work helped you make your workplace safer, share it with others who could benefit. A tool like this only compounds in value when it spreads - pass it on to a colleague, a network, or an organisation that needs it.

Make it better

Prior Work was built on the shoulders of the broader psychosocial science community - the researchers who developed the measurement instruments, the meta-analyses that underpin the models, and the occupational psychology canon more generally. If you have the skills to improve the models, survey instruments, or reporting, please do.

Tell us what you find

If you use Prior Work in a real workplace context and learn something - about what works, what doesn't, how workers respond to the outputs - share that back. This tool improves through real-world feedback, and your experience is valuable.

Advocate for open WHS infrastructure

Psychosocial risk assessment is a legal obligation, yet the tools to do it well are rarely free - disadvantaging organisations who cannot afford expensive consultants for support. If you agree that should change, say so - to regulators, industry bodies, and funders of WHS infrastructure.

What "non-commercial" means in practice

Permitted: Using Prior Work within an organisation to assess and improve the psychosocial health of your own workforce - even if that organisation is a commercial business. Internal WHS compliance work is not a commercial use of the tool itself.

Not permitted: Delivering Prior Work - or reports generated by it - as a component of a service you charge clients for. If you are an OHS consultant, organisational psychologist, or advisory firm and you intend to use Prior Work in client engagements, please get in touch to discuss appropriate arrangements.

If you are unsure whether your intended use is permitted, the safest approach is to contact us before proceeding.

Attribution notice

When sharing or adapting Prior Work, please include the following notice:

Prior Work - Psychosocial Risk Intelligence. priorwork.au. Licenced under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

Why this licence?

Psychosocial risk assessment should not be a commodity. The evidence base - data models, survey instruments, report templates - was developed to make rigorous, expert-level WHS support available to workplaces that can't afford specialist consulting.

CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 keeps the tool free and open while preventing repackaging for sale. Derivative works carry the same terms, so improvements remain available to everyone.
